FFTF: It goes on

I love this quote and you can thank Robert Frost for it (though I don't know who to thank for this beautiful picture!).

Inspiration: Bloggers I heart

Hello darlings!

Figured I should take a little time to introduce you to the bloggers who I not only read daily, but who have inspired me to live and healthier and more active lifestyle. So without further ado, my trio of inspiration!

1-Fitnessita www.fitnessista.com

Gina, a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and a new mom, is one cool chick. She cooks up a storm, post interesting workout options, and has a great sense of humour.

Currently, she's doing her annual Winter Shape Up. Last year I did it and lost the majority of my weight thanks to it. I'm doing it again this year, just a week behind (thank you rib pain and dental work), but her workouts can be done at home or at the gym with minimal equipment. Check it out and give it a whirl, especially since it is totally free!

2-Peanut Butter Fingers www.pbfingers.com

I found out about Julie through Gina. She's a fun loving freelancer from Florida, who eats the way I think most of us do: most healthy, with some yummy stuff thrown in. To be quite honest, that's what drew me to her, someone who eats like me and not organic/paleo/Atkins, whatever.

She also posts on a variety of topics, from her favourite TV shows, her hilarious dog Sadie, and her daily workouts. She works out 6 days a week and has just completed a half-marathon. Plus she's funny!

3-Jess Lively www.jesslively.com

So Jess is a bit off the beaten path. She's all about living a life with intention, which I find beautiful. Recently married with a cute puppy, Jess' blog are always filled with food for thought for me. I'm a big fan of quotes (you should see my desk at work!) and she posts many awesome ones. Very thought provoking.

These are just 3 of the ones I read everyday and I suggest giving them a try. You won't be disappointed!

You're in my viens

No real purpose to this song, other than it is stuck in my head at the moment.

A beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.

New Year Fitness Resolution: Run a 5K

Since last January (2012), I have had one goal in mind and that was to run the 5K on Ottawa Race Weekend.

Ottawa Race Weekend is possibly the biggest race weekend in Canada, largely due to the fact that the marathon on Sunday morning is a qualifier for Boston. People fly in from everywhere, the downtown core is shut down, and forget about getting a hotel room, it's basically impossible.

On the Saturday of Race Weekend, it's the 5 K race. Winding around the Rideau Canal, it's one of the "starter races". And this year, I'm going to run it!

My goal? Run the whole 5 K with minimal or no walking. I'm not so concerned about time (I'm currently in the 40 to 45 minute corral), but I want to finish. In all my sweaty glory!

So the 5 K training begins and will be documented on this here blog. Let the adventure begin!

FFTF: Let's Move Forward

It's a new month. Let's all spend less time focusing on what has been and more time focusing on what is to come.

Let's enjoy the adventures coming up and not focus on the things left undone.

Let's move forward.

Where's the beef?

I've been having some rib pain for a while. More specifically, the left side. It was time for me to see someone about it.

I went to see an osteopath. So what's an osteopath?

According to the American Osteopathic Association,  it "is a complete system of health care with a philosophy that combines the needs of the patient with the current practice of medicine. Doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs) practice a whole-person approach, which means they consider both the physical and mental needs of their patients." (source)

I've been to see an osteopath before and it was a lot of help. It fixed me up real good, hence, I decided to see a new one.

Long story short, after being told I was out of alignment, which made complete sense to me, I was also told that I need to eat more red meat, since it seems like I might be low in iron and vitamin B12. I was also told to go get some blood tests via my family doctor. Needless to say, that's a work in progress.

Hence, I'm now trying to eat red meat 2 to 3 times a week. The problem is that I don't like red meat. I occasionally eat it, when I crave it, when I want it, but that's rare. Like really rare.

So, I am now one of those people who is now going to required to eat red meat. Strange but true. I, your handy neighborhood blogger, is now one of the few people who has been asked by a health care professional to eat red meat.

So, where's the beef?

FFTF: Blossom and Grow

"What happens to you doesn't matter; what you become through these experiences is all that is significant. This is the true meaning of life."

I don't have a source for this quote, but it's a good one. Such a good one in fact that I posted it on my Facebook profile.

Life is the ultimate learning experience. Things happen, like bad boyfriends, bad jobs, or poor hotel choices, but this things always teach us something. Either about what not to do in a situation, how you don't want to be treated in a future situation, to actually learning a lot about what makes you YOU.

These are opportunities for growth, for change. Take them as that. Learn from them, blossom, and grow!

(Sorry for being a day late in posting this quote! After going through a serious deep freeze and actually leaving the house yesterday for work, I wasn't home much.)
